How To Select Lighting Fixtures In Chicago

by | Feb 22, 2017 | Business & Economics

When it comes to choosing lighting fixtures for your Chicago home, most people don’t know what to do or don’t seem to care. However, the lights you select could create a focal point or make it much easier to see your guests and what you’re doing.

Entryway

The lights you select for the entryway are important because you want your home to feel inviting to guests. Therefore, it’s essential that the mood you create is appropriate. Large lamps or chandeliers can be excellent. However, if you display artwork in the entryway, you may want accent lights, as well, to highlight the beauty.

Living Room/Den

The living room or den is where everything happens. Homework may get done, television is watched, and relaxation should abound. Therefore, you need lighting that sets the right balance. Consider permanent fixtures, such as pendant lamps and chandeliers, but also add in some sconces or floor lamps. Likewise, make sure a dimmer switch is installed to provide mood light when necessary.

Dining Room/Kitchen

Your dining room may be the easiest to light because the table will be the focal point. A chandelier placed directly in the center provides enough light to see all the delicious food without being overpowering. Likewise, consider spotlights or accent lights for any particular features you have, such as artwork.

The kitchen can be complicated to light because you don’t have a focal point and you need to be able to see what you’re doing. Overhead lights will be required for basic tasks, but extra lights can be helpful over sinks, islands, and bars. Spotlights and pendant lights work well.

Other Rooms

Bedrooms may require warmer lights because it’s a place to sleep and unwind. Bathrooms need to be well-lit, especially if you apply makeup.
