Should You Outsource your bookkeeping tasks?

by | Nov 24, 2016 | Business

If you own a small business, you understand how important bookkeeping and accounting tasks are to keep your enterprise on track. Many entrepreneurs and ‘experts’ recommend that you outsource any task that you are not suited for, or that don’t directly relate to your business. While outsourcing your bookkeeping can be a great idea in certain instances, for some entrepreneurs, it is just not feasible. That doesn’t mean you can fumble your way through it; accurate bookkeeping is critical to the success of your business, whether you work from home, or you have a store-front operation. QuickBooks training in Houston, for example, can teach you the basics of the software so that you can operate your business efficiently.

If you are thinking of outsourcing this task, consider the following before making any final decisions:

  • Price: Can you afford to pay the price for a bookkeeper or is it going to put a strain on your budget? Can you feasibly do the monthly tasks on your own, and then forward everything at the end of the year for tax filing purposes?

  • Expertise: Is the person or company you’re going to hire have the expertise needed? Do they have experience with your company’s niche? How long have they been in business? Are they efficient at what they do? If not, you may be better off doing the work yourself.

  • Trust: This is a huge factor and not one to be taken lightly. Unfortunately, there are many unscrupulous people out there that will ‘fudge’ the numbers for your business, or outright steal money right out from under you. Although this doesn’t happen often, it does happen, and you should trust your intuition before you hire an accountant or bookkeeper for your business.

If you decide to do the work yourself, but aren’t comfortable using software, QuickBooks training in Dallas can teach you everything you need to know.
